Learn from a Master
Eduard Zelkind, six-time Minnesota State Chess Champion and FIDE Chess Master, is one of the most accomplished and respected chess teachers in the country, as well as one of the highest ranked competitive players in Minnesota.
Ed was a professional chess coach in the former Soviet Union for 7 years, and has been coaching chess in the United States for the past 20+ years.
Developing Young Talent For More Than Two Decades
Ed's unique teaching style, which combines the time-tested techniques of the great Russian chess schools with the gentle, insightful, and patient pace of a father and grandfather, has been proven successful time and time again. Ed has helped develop the talent of many of the state's young chess stars, from Sean Nagle to John Bartholomew, (National High School Champion, 2002). Like Sean and John, many of Ed's students continue to thrive and develop into some of the top chess players in the country.
Novice and intermediate players who train with Ed will see their games improve by leaps and bounds. From understanding basic philosophies like controlling the center of the board and developing pieces... to becoming more disciplined in end game tactics and opening lines... Ed will analyze your current skills and help you gain knowledge and techniques in the areas that will most improve your game.
Continue to Advance
Advanced players will also see improvements in their game after just a few sessions with Ed Zelkind. By drawing upon his own experience battling with some of the world's best players, and using historical archives of history's greatest games, Ed will analyze your current game to help bolster your weaknesses and improve upon your strengths.
